All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.  – Pablo Picasso

As a kid, I was taught to pick up crayons or markers and put color down to convey ideas and feelings.  Isn’t that what art is?  Of course it is!  It’s a way to show others who you are, what you do, what you like and what inspires you.  It’s a catalysis some people use to heal from hurts and celebrate achievements.

This coming fall, I plan to homeschool my oldest son and in time, I may bring home our middle son.  A few months ago as I was creating a giant world map and other art pieces for the room, I gave the boys empty canvases to paint whatever they wanted to.  Jackson, my oldest, had been given an assignment a month or so ago in art class at his public school to use oil pastels to recreate a still life picture of flowers in a vase of sorts.  When he brought it home, I asked where he got it because he had done such a good job it didn’t occur to me at that time that he had done it himself.  I was so impressed by the piece that it’s not hanging behind our dining room table, which is a focal point when you walk into the room, and our home for that matter.  You could just see the pride in his eyes as I gave his masterpieces it’s place of honor.  What do you think he painted on his empty canvas?  A recreation of the original oil pastel.  That accomplishment of being able to do such a good job has stuck with him and he, as a result, recreates it many times over.  It creates

warm fuzzy feelings for him. It’s a way for him to channel a good time/feeling/accomplishment.

So let me ask you.  How do you express yourself artistically now that you’re an adult.  Has your catalyst of self expression changed?  I know for me, I use different art forms.  I love to crochet, knit, sew and cook.  Yes I believe cooking is an art form!  I also very much enjoy making my outfits a piece of art.  I have also explored ways to use my body as a canvas…no not body paints or tattoos.  Just accessories!

I have learned so much about accessorizing in the last few years and it has taken my boring worrobe to new heights.  A simple grouping of necklaces can

Use a color wheel when accessorizing! It will help you to pick things that go together and ensure that you look amazing!

make all the difference in the world.  Add a pop of color by way of a summer shoe and a handbag.  You don’t have to purchase the expensive names and high-priced tags to look amazing!  If pattern on clothing scares you, pick a solid top

in your favorite color of the season. In art class as far back as grade school, we were shown a color wheel, right?  Remember that pie shaped poster your art teacher would hold up to show you primary and secondary colors?  Well get yourself one and post it in your closet.  That will be your best friend when learning how to accessorize!  If you want more instruction on how to use a color wheel to put an outfit together, click on the color wheel to the right and it will take you to an amazing write up on the subject.

When you apply this concept, you will realize how invaluable Miche handbags are!  It can be expensive to have to purchase a whole collection of designer handbags in all different shades, colors, patterns, textures and styles.  With Miche, you purchase one of the four base bags that fits your lifestyle and then shells to compliment your wardrobe.  You can take it a step further and purchase additional handles and purse charms to totally change the look of your shells when you need to refresh your stash of shells.  Not only does Miche make it easy to accessorize and stay in style, there’s no more dumping your bag out when you want to change your handbag.  You simply take detach the outer shell from your base bag and replace it with another!  What used to take 5 minutes can now be done in as little as 5 seconds, no kidding, no exaggeration.

Your mom used to encourage you to be creative as a child didn’t she?  Is she creative now?  How well does she transfer creativity into her outfits?  If she’s having trouble with that, why not get a Miche for her for Mother’s Day?  We have a great promotion going just for moms!  Not only that, with a qualifying purchase you can get vintage shells to go with her new base for a fraction of the list price!  She has taught you well over the years.  Remind her that she’s still smart and creative and that she’s beautiful!

There is an artist in all of us now just like there was on in us as a child.  Figure out how to ignite that passion to create and explore color as an adult.  If you don’t think you’re crafty or have drawing/painting talent, try to incorporate some color and texture into your wardrobe.  Make your body a canvas of sorts and see how much better you feel!  I promise it is really hard not to smile when you’ve put together and wear an amazing outfit!

Cheers,

Andrea

Many businesses come up with specific names for their products.  When looking through a catalog, it makes the experience fun, but in the real world, and for conversation sake, it can make it hard on consumers.  Let’s take Miche Shells for example.

Shells: The piece that goes on the outside of the base and gives the overall style of the bag. Despite marketing and representatives using the lingo, most people still call them covers.

Urban Shells: These shells for the Prima base were released toward the later part of the summer last year.  SO MANY people were anxiously awaiting their arrival.  Because people were talking about the rumors they might be coming before they actually got here, their name had already been established by the public: Backpack bags.

Go-Anywhere Bag: These shells were created to be able to fill the need so many women have.  How do you carry all your things when you’re going to the gym, pool, park or to the baby sitters?  Miche’s response was the Go-Anywhere, the public says diaper bag.

With these three simple examples, I hope I have gotten you thinking about branding.  How has your business or product established it’s “branding” and how has it overcome the tendency of the masses using general terms when referring to you?  Are you aware of generalized terms used in reference to your product or services?  This stuff does matter, and more than you realize. Below are times when knowing this information could drastically change your bottom line and overall effectiveness in business:

  • Blogging, Websites: Keywords, tags, META Tags and search engine optimization. If you don’t know the layman’s lingo for your products or services, you may be missing out severely on traffic to your internet information sites.   Keywords are words that general people use to describe or search for your products.  Knowing these, you can use them as tags on your blog or website.  A tag is simply a word or phrase that the search engines can grab on to when compiling a search someone’s asked for while sitting at their computer.
  • Twitter: Hash tags, profile naming.  If someone is looking for a Mother’s Day gift idea on Twitter, they are going to use the search function at the top of their screen.  If you haven’t used a “#” in front of the words they search for, you might miss some potential customers.  For example, if you go right now and search #LoveBeautySchool on Twitter, you will get a small sneak peek into what I’m working on for next month. 🙂  However, if nobody searches for #LoveBeautySchool, then the hashtag was just a waste of time.
  • Facebook Pages: If you have made a page on facebook.com like I have for my business, you need to optomize (or get the most out of) your search engine exposure!  How do you do that?  Again, use keywords, or commonly used words by the public, in your page description.  Also, be specific about who you are and what you do in your page name. As a side note:  Use dashes in your page name, too, as Google sees each word separated by a “-” as a word, instead of one big word.  For example, if I had know this when I made my page, I would have called it www.facebook.com/bag-transformation of having it all together as one word.

Nobody gets into business to fail.  Knowing helpful tips like these can help you get leads, connect with customers and improve your bottom line.

If you found this article helpful, please feel free to share this with your colleagues, tweet and/or facebook it!  Thanks for your support and many blessings in your current and future ventures!

{April 5, 2012}   Do You Have Determination?

Today I was visiting some of my follower’s blogs and came across this blog that talked about how she and her dad did the New York Half Marathon.  To say it inspired me would be a complete understatement.  I couldn’t get it out of my mind for the rest of the day!

Think about the last goal you set for yourself. *waits a few minutes to allow you to think….stop reading and think!*  🙂

Answer these three questions:

  1. Did you reach your goal?
  2. Did you reach it on time (did you set a time limit for achieving it)?
  3. What resources did you utilize in order to accomplish your goal?

If you answered yes to the first two, chances are you have an answer for #3, too.  Let me explain.

In my experiences, when I have attempted to reach a goal on my own, I fell short. As a teen I used to run competitively.  I had amazing race times, would get personal records and enjoyed every minute of it.  But guess what, the races I ran were team races.  Cross country, 4x800m, 4x1600m.  I did do the regular 1600 and 800, too, but guess what?  My score went to help the team!

As an adult and after having my three kids, I have tried several times to shed the baby weight and to get back into my training.  I thought it would be easy.  I thought it would be a breeze.  And it would be if I had accountability and someone other than my eight year old son, though he does really well at kicking my butt out there.  I know myself well enough to know that I need a well thought out plan of action, and then someone to hold my feet to the floor.  Allow me to share with you how I plan to shed the 20 pounds that are sticking with me and to get back on my training regiment.

Goal: In November I want do the color run in Nashville.

How will I achieve it?

  1. As soon as I found out about this race, I posted on Facebook that I was looking for people who were interested in doing the race with me. There were around 10 people who said they would do it also.  One of which is coming all the way from Kansas to run it with me!  GO BECCA!
  2. I downloaded MapMyRun to my Android phone and got things set up on my desktop so I could track my runs.  How often, how far, how many calories burned, food intake, etc etc etc. I also decided to make my profile public so I could share my workouts with my friends.  One of them rides bikes competitively and uses MapMyRide so she knows how the system works.  Another friend of mine whom I run with on occasion has the program on her Android phone as well.
  3. I have asked my son to train and run it with me as well.  Trust me, he is more than happy to get out there and run 3 times a day if I were up for it.  He’s always asking when our next run is.
  4. Now, my blog!  You all know what I’m doing so I give you permission to ask me about how it’s going.
  5. I have thought about asking people to take pictures of me around town if they catch me walking during my workouts and then posting them to my wall, but I’m not sure if people would actually do it or not.  But I have thought about it!

So that’s what I have so far.  I know that if I am training and eating the way I am supposed to be, the weight will come off or my inches will decrease on their own.  I’m not worried too much about that aspect of things.

Feel free to comment with you experiences with such situations.  Lend a helping hand, so to speak if you know of something that would help.  Offer encouragement.  And most important of all, HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE!

Cheers,

Andrea
